Alt Text (Alternative Text)

A written description added to images so search engines understand what they show. Essential for accessibility and image search presence.

Alt text (Alternative Text) is a written description of an image embedded in your website's HTML code. Its primary purpose is accessibility: screen readers read this text aloud to visually impaired users. However, it is also a vital SEO signal. Google’s crawlers cannot "see" images in the same way humans do; they rely on alt text to understand the subject matter and context of an image.

For care homes, this means using alt text to describe facilities, resident activities, or sensory gardens precisely (e.g., "Spacious lounge at [Home Name] with natural light and ergonomically designed armchairs") rather than using generic filenames like "IMG_1234.jpg". Correct alt text helps your images appear in Google Image Search, which families often use when visually researching care homes or home care agencies in their local area.
