Noindex Tag

An instruction in a page's code that prevents search engines from showing it in search results.

A "noindex" tag is a piece of code (a meta tag) placed in the <head> section of a webpage that tells search engine crawlers not to include that specific page in their search index. While the crawler can still "see" the page, it will not display it to users in search results.

In the care sector, noindex tags are useful for "utility" pages that aren't valuable for searchers, such as thank-you pages after a form submission, internal staff portals, or duplicate content files. However, an accidentally applied noindex tag is a common "silent killer" of SEO performance, causing high-value service pages or community guides to disappear from Google entirely. Identifying these tags is a core part of our technical health audits.
